llms.txt

Also called: llms.txt file

llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file at a site's root that offers AI systems a curated, machine-readable map of the site's most important content — an emerging GEO signal analogous to robots.txt and sitemap.xml.

llms.txt is an emerging convention: a Markdown-formatted file placed at the root of a website that gives AI systems a clean, curated guide to the site's most important pages and their purpose. The intent is to help engines find and correctly interpret the content that matters, in a format built for extraction rather than for human browsing.

It is a proposal, not a universally-honored standard, and support varies across engines. Its value today is partly direct (some tools read it) and partly hygienic: producing an llms.txt forces a site to state, clearly and in machine-readable form, what it is and what it wants understood — which is exactly the clarity that helps engines represent a brand accurately.

GeoMagics checks for llms.txt as one machine-readability signal among many; its presence is a positive signal, its absence is a fixable gap, and neither is treated as the whole story.
